Good evening, Chelsea fans. Here are your evening headlines for Monday, November 9.
Former Blue agrees with Lampard’s Ziyech prediction
Former Blue Mario Melchiot has backed Frank Lampard’s prediction that Hakim Ziyech will prove a big player for Chelsea.
Ziyech was in fine form at the weekend against Sheffield United as Chelsea ran out 4-1 winners, and that earned him rave reviews from Lampard after the match.
“He will be a big player for us,” Lampard said. “I need players who can come in and lift the level. That’s hard. The midfield were great with their driving runs. He has given us an extra edge.”
Melchiot has echoed those sentiments, and when asked if he thought Chelsea fans had seen the best of Morocco international, he told Stadium Astro.: “No, we see a confident guy but I know he can be way more confident and way more dominating in the game.
“When he gets to that point, that’s when we’re going to see the guy that we really want to see.
“Why is he a top player? Because of his technical ability,” Melchiot continued. “He’s a strong player, physically he might not look it, but he is.
“Left foot, great. As a human being he’s a real fighter. His stamina, it looks like this guy will never get tired. Now it comes down to how long and how effective can he stay for that team?
“For Ziyech, it’s now can he create the same comfort that he had at Ajax in the sense of being so crucial for the team?
“When he does that then we’ve got a really, really good player that wants to feel great about himself. He’s a top player, I don’t doubt that, but now he just has to continue.”
Chelsea rivaling Milan for £10m rated defender
Chelsea and AC Milan are in the running for Bosnian defender Anel Ahmedhodzic, according to reports.
Ahmedhodzic, 21, is currently on the books of Swedish outfit Malmo and is said to be available for £10 million, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, via Goal.
The Bosnia defender is considered one of the best players in the Swedish top flight and that has seen him draw attention from Chelsea and Milan.
Chelsea players – and Lampard – rated
Chelsea have enjoyed strong form heading into the November international break, and that has seen them rise to fifth in the Premier League.
It’s a similar story in the Champions League, with the Blues top of Group E with seven points from their opening three games.
It’s easy to enjoy life as a Chelsea fan right now, and Oliver Harbord has rated the players and Lampard after their start to the campaign.
There have been several standout stars, including Edouard Mendy and Thiago Silva, while the performances of academy graduates Mason Mount, Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Tammy Abraham are also reflected upon.
Not every Chelsea player has shone this term, however, and there are a couple of Spaniards who have lost their place in the side and whose futures are uncertain.
