Roman Abramovich is reportedly no longer willing to spend big on sacking Chelsea managers.
Thomas Tuchel will have to keep Chelsea in the Champions League in the next two seasons to trigger an extension option in his contract with the Blues, according to the Daily Mail.
Prior to Sunday’s 2-0 win over Burnley, the German admitted that he was concerned at first when Chelsea only offered him an 18-month deal.
The 47-year-old, however, decided to accept the offer when he found out about this performance-related option.
By doing so, Chelsea want to minimise future compensation payments as the club have spent £110m in pay-offs to sacked managers since Roman Abramovich’s takeover in 2003.
