Despite the pair’s moves to Camp Nou cost Barca a combined fee of around €265m, Coutinho and Griezmann haven’t really met the expectations of the Catalans’ fans.
“If Messi signals his intention to stay, the new board should work on a transfer for Coutinho and Griezmann and use the money to sign a proper number 9,” Reddit user @stemcellguy wrote.
“Both are crowding the space for Messi, both are not in their early 20s, they can’t be on a long term plan to replace Messi.
“Coutinho, in particular, is not adding anything to Barcelona. It’s unfortunate since he is a different player with Brazil.
“Coutinho and Griezmann’s situation is unfair to them and to the club. Both have the potential to offer so much more, but Barcelona is just not cutting it for them.
“This has been proven many times. Regardless of the ridiculous amount of money that was used in their signings, the club should accept the loss and move on.”
Barcelona splashed €145m and €120m on Philippe Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
Neither of the two has managed to show his best form at Camp Nou so far. What’s more, both players started the latest 3-0 victory at Valladolid on the bench.
