The Brazilian was one of the heroes in the semifinal against Barcelona – but had to watch the final from the stands.
When someone mentions Ramires, the first image that comes to mind is him chipping Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes to hand Chelsea an advantage in the Champions League semifinal – and the goal proved to be the winning one.
Just a couple of minutes before that, however, the midfielder was handed a yellow card which would rule him out of the final clash with Bayern Munich. In the heat of the moment, however, it’s not what Ramires thought about.
“When we finished the game, Roberto [Di Matteo] came to me and said you are out for the final,” Ramires later recalled in an interview to the club’s official website.
“That surprised me so I was thinking about only the game, I don’t think about the final. I was in the match to win that match. And the team won the final so that was okay.
“It was hard [during the final] because all the time I was thinking I could have been on the pitch helping my team-mates. That feeling is not good but that’s football. The team did very well and we won the Champions League!”
