David De Gea has won the Premier League Player of the Month award for January, it was announced on Friday.
The Manchester United shot-stopper is the first goalkeeper in six years to claim the prestigious individual honour.
The Spaniard said: “Trying to win things as a team is much bigger than picking up individual awards, but I’m obviously still very happy about it.”
Ralf Rangnick added: “Amazing. David kept us in quite a few games with fantastic reactions and saves. He is one of the best goalkeepers in the world.”
De Gea made a total of 22 saves in Man United’s four matches in January: 5 in the 1-0 defeat against Wolves, 7 in a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa and 8 in the 3-1 win at Brentford.
