- The Spaniard is certain he was fouled before Lindelof scored an own goal.
- However, both field referee and VAR agreed to allow the goal.
- De Gea posted a screenshot of the episode where we can see Calvert-Lewin hitting him in the face.
David de Gea has not remained silent over the VAR controversy that had a direct impact on the result of the Everton game.
After Everton’s Leighton Baines took a corner, the Spaniard collided in the air with Dominic Calvert-Lewin who apparently hit him in the face. De Gea missed his punch and the ball flew by to bounce into the net off Victor Lindelof.
Referee Michael Oliver, however, awarded the goal, and VAR officials upheld the decision. It puzzled De Gea who was confident that he had been fouled.
After the game, the No.1 took to the social media with a simple message to the officials and one photo as evidence.

Speaking after the game, Harry Maguire revealed that he had talked to De Gea about the incident.
“I asked David straight away and he said it’s a foul,” Maguire said on MUTV. “Obviously, he is frustrated that he didn’t get a cleaner punch on it but, at the end of the day, he has been impeded without the opposition making contact with the ball.
“People will say it is a contact sport, yes, but the way it is now, you have seen it over the last couple of years, you can’t touch them in the box and normally they get given a foul.”
