According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are considering taking Frenkie De Jong, Clement Lenglet and Marc-Andre ter Stegen to court over the contract renewals they signed in 2020 under Bartomeu’s regime.
The lawyers have found ‘signs of criminality’ in these deals and could recommend filing a lawsuit against Bartomeu and his board.
This could see the court ruling these contracts null and void. In this case, the players would have to pay back the difference between their previous deals and the money they received from Barcelona under these deals.
Gerard Pique has also renewed his contract alongside these three players but he has already agreed to sign a new deal with a reduced salary. Therefore, he won’t have to give the money back.
According to Onda Cero, Barcelona have spent €311m in extra costs to cover the four players’ salaries.
