According to the most recent Spanish media rumors, the sale of Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United is more alive than ever.
According to a report in AS today (press photograph below), Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff had lunch with Richard Arnold and John Murtough to finalize the deal for the Dutch midfielder.
The meeting confirms that Barcelona has placed the 25-year-old on the market, contrary to the president’s comments a few days ago.
According to the Madrid-based outlet, De Jong is furious at Barcelona and Xavi Hernandez for their lack of faith in him.
He’d just returned to training, and before even meeting his teammates, the Dutch midfielder knew the boss had given him the go-ahead to sell him.
De Jong is unwilling to reduce his wage in order to remain at the Nou Camp, according to a Spanish news source, and Man Utd will have to meet the player’s every request in order to get him to Old Trafford.
The fee has been reported to be 80 million euros (£67.5 million), however, it has not been established how much Man United will pay as a fixed amount.
According to AS, Bernardo Silva wants to move to Barcelona, but for the time being, the Catalan club is entirely focused on selling De Jong, and the transaction might be finalized within the next few hours.
Chelsea did compete, but only as an outsider. The changes should please United fans. Let’s hope we can finish the signing today.
