- Emery praised Tierney’s attitude.
- The boss notes that Kieran has managed two good performances in a row after injury comeback.
- Unai is happy to have both Tierney and Kolasinac to choose from.
Against Standard Liege, the 22-year-old Kieran Tierney once again proved a £25m fee for such a quality player is nothing. He bossed the left wing putting his counterparts under constant pressure and set up Martinelli for the opener.
Unai Emery has as well been left very impressed with our new signing and praised Kieran after the clash:
“Kieran after his injury is coming back with a good attitude. He played last week against Nottingham Forest for 80 minutes with a good performance, and tonight was another very good performance,” Unai said.
However, the boss wouldn’t reveal if this performance means that Tierney won the competition against Sead Kolasinac for the left-back spot:
“We are a better competitive team with him and with Kolasinac at left-back. We are happy with him.”
Former Gunner Martin Keown, for one, believes that Kieran deserves to play over Kolasinac:
“Tierney made really good use of that opportunity, bursting down the left-hand side. He puts the ball in the box time and time again.
“He’s really positive in everything he does. He wants to go at people, he is oozing quality, and [Sead] Kolasinac is under pressure, there is no doubt about it.”
The Gunners secured a 4-0 win in the Europa League match against Liege on Thursday. Three out of four goals were scored by our promising young talents. Martinelli netted a brace and the third one was scored by Willock.
