- Allegedly, the Granada defeat was the final straw.
- A source close to the dressing room is cited as saying: “Something strange is happening.”
- However, ESPN don’t expect Bartomeu to sack Valverde anytime soon.
Boom! According to highly reliable ESPN FC, Barcelona players have allegedly started losing confidence in Ernesto Valverde. There is nothing surprising about this. The Catalans have started the 2019/2020 campaign rather poorly which was highlighted by the disastrous 2-0 away defeat to Granada.
ESPN believe Barca players are particularly disappointed with the way their team perform on the road. Sensationally, the Catalans haven’t won a single away game this term. Moreover, they have been winless in the last seven away matches in all competitions.
Previously, Valverde had the full support from both the board and the players. However, everything seems to have changed this season. A person close to the Blaugrana dressing room is cited by ESPN as saying: “Something strange is happening. The team is playing without intensity and they’re not creating anything.”
Still, ESPN doubt Josep Maria Bartomeu could sack Valverde in the upcoming weeks. He is described as a person who rarely makes ‘impulsive decisions’.
Last season, Valverde extended his Barcelona contract until 2021. Back then, the Catalans were fighting for the treble. Unfortunately, they suffered heavy 4-0 away defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League semi-finals which was followed by the unexpected 2-1 Copa del Rey final loss to Valencia.
Furious Barca fans launch THIRD wave of petition to fire Valverde after Granada humiliation. Will you sign it?
