Samuel Eto’o has been sentenced to 22 months of suspended prison and will have to pay four fines adding up to €1.8m after admitting to tax fraud in court, Diario Sport claim.
The Cameroonian admitted to having defrauded €3.8m from the Spanish Public Treasury during his time at Barcelona (2006-2009).
“I recognize these deeds and I am going to pay, but let it be known that I was a child then and that I always did what my father asked me to do,” Eto’o has said.
Samuel has blamed the infractions on Jose Maria Mesalles, his agent at the time, someone who he described as a second father. The ex-footballer has even filed a lawsuit against him.
Mesalles has also been found guilty as part of the same lawsuit. He has received one year of suspended prison and a fine in the region of €900,000.
