Victor Osimhen has been tipped to continue from where he stopped at the end of this past season and score over 20 league goals for Napoli in the fast-approaching 2021/22 season.
Making this prediction was former Napoli midfielder, Salvatore Bagni, who believes the Nigerian striker will finally show his true talent and strength for the former Italian champions in the upcoming Serie A season.
“In my opinion, the Nigerian will score more than 20 goals in the next football season and will be fundamental to the plans of the new Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti. This is my prediction,” said Bagni, in an interview with Tele A.
Osimhen, whose accomplishments for Lille in the 2019/20 campaign earned him a €70 million move to Napoli last year, missed over three months of football due to injury and coronavirus-related problems. But he overcame those setbacks at the start of 2021 and finished the season with 10 goals from 24 Serie A appearances.
“Victor Osimhen, in the last season, was often nervous because after the serious injury he suffered he struggled to return to his usual levels,” continued Bagni. “Then, when he found the right physical condition, he was reborn.
“He was much more cheerful, also available to his teammates. In the last football season, he only showed his talent. In the coming months, we will see all his strength.”
The 22-year-old’s performance in the second half of the season is the reason why he has been linked with a host of European teams, most notably English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.
Napoli have reportedly moved to stave off any interests in Osimhen by offering him a two-year contract extension which, when finalised, will see a €100 million release clause also inserted into the deal that will see the Nigerian staying at the Diego Maradona Stadium until June 30, 2027.
