According to his new contract at Barcelona, a big part of Samuel Umtiti’s wages depend on how many games he plays per season, Diario Sport explain
The more he plays, the bigger his salary. The Frenchman accepted these conditions since he saw himself as a starter and believed he could contribute to the team.
However, Umtiti has picked up a serious injury and could miss at least three months.
The centre-back should be back in April; even if he becomes a starter, he won’t have too many games left to play. And in summer, the 28-year-old is expected to leave. If that happens, Barca would save ‘up to €14m’ in wages.
This term so far, Big Sam has played just one game — 90 minutes in the 2-2 draw with Osasuna.
