Ousmane Dembele has been an important player for France at the 2022 World Cup, starting both games and providing an assist. During one of the press conferences, national team coach Didier Deschamps praised the Barcelona winger for his improvement in recent years.
“Dembele in 2018 was part of a team that ended up as world champions. Since then, he’s had major injuries in the last four years. He’s an important player for France,” France Football quote Deschamps saying.
“He has improved with the day-to-day demands of Barcelona. I see him in a much better place. The fact he started the first game is proof he has the incredible ability to damage opposing defences. I see him more mature and complete.
“Dembele has the ability to create a lot of danger in attack, but he adds a lot of pragmatism in defence. He understands things quickly,” he added.
Back in 2018, Dembele wasn’t a key player for France. He started twice during the group stage but went on to play just two minutes in the four knockout games. He didn’t play in the final against Croatia either.
