According to rumors in Spain, Frenkie de Jong has not ruled out a move to Chelsea this summer and would prefer to join Thomas Tuchel’s team over Manchester United.
United and Barcelona have negotiated a fee of €85 million (£72.2 million) for De Jong, but the midfielder prefers to stay at Camp Nou.
Barca must also resolve their present disagreement with De Jong, who is owed more than €20 million (£17 million) in unpaid wages.
According to rumors, De Jong’s agent has been urging Chelsea to make an offer to Barcelona.
According to Sport, while De Jong’s main goal is to stay at Barcelona, he has not ruled out a move to Chelsea.
According to the source, De Jong is opposed to joining United since they will not compete in the Champions League, and the Netherlands international is not interested in living in Manchester.
De Jong is also said to recognize Chelsea’s’athletic vision and structure that lives up to their sporting objectives,’ while he ‘does not look favorably on a move to United.
Chelsea, on the other hand, has not made an official offer to Barcelona for the 25-year-old.
Erik ten Hag’s top target this summer has been De Jong, and the United manager has urged the club’s hierarchy to go on with a deal even if talks linger into the closing weeks of the transfer window.
De Jong is presently on a pre-season tour in the United States with the Barcelona squad.
Meanwhile, Barcelona has been in talks with Chelsea about a move for Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso.
Azpilicueta is on his way to Camp Nou and talks to sign Alonso are ongoing.
