Christian Eriksen is expected to join Manchester United this summer.
Manchester United are rumored to be interested in signing Christian Eriksen during their summer tour of Australia. Eriksen is presently a free agent after leaving Brentford at the conclusion of last season, but he is likely to sign a three-year contract at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag was hired as United’s new manager this summer, succeeding interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who left the club quickly. And the Dutchman is expected to recruit a slew of new players ahead of the new season, having previously signed Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord.
Eriksen has been on United’s radar throughout the summer, as Ten Hag seeks to improve his creativity in the center of the field. And the arrival of the player could be announced soon.
According to ESPN, the Danish international has finished a comprehensive medical with the Red Devils and has verbally agreed to a three-year contract. And United are confident that the former Tottenham Hotspur player will be allowed to join his new teammates in Australia.
On Wednesday, United arrived in Australia to begin their summer tour. The 13-time Premier League champions began their pre-season campaign with a 4-0 victory over Liverpool at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok on Tuesday, thanks to first-half goals from Jadon Sancho, Fred, and Anthony Martial, as well as a second-half strike from Facundo Pellistri.
Ten Hag’s team will now meet A-League side Melbourne Victory on Friday at the city’s cricket pitch, before facing Crystal Palace at the same site the following Tuesday. On Saturday, July 23, they will play Aston Villa in Perth’s Optus Stadium to round out their trip to Australia.
Eriksen will bring much-needed experience to the United squad after making 237 Premier League games for Tottenham and Brentford. The 30-year-old first came to England in 2013, when he joined Spurs from Ajax. Six and a half years later, he left north London to join Inter Milan.
Eriksen experienced a heart episode while competing for Denmark in Euro 2020 last summer. He was later implanted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator, preventing him from playing in Serie A. As a result, he was released by Inter and returned to the Premier League with Brentford in January.
The creative talent, who has 115 caps for his country, appeared 11 times for Thomas Frank’s club in the second part of last season and demonstrated that he still has what it takes to excel at the highest level of the game. And Ten Hag will undoubtedly be salivating at the possibility of witnessing the player in action at Old Trafford.
