As reported by The Athletic, Manchester City indeed made a serious push to convince Paul Pogba to join them as a free agent this summer.
It’s claimed that Pep Guardiola himself met the midfielder to discuss a potential move from one Manchester club to another.
Moreover, City’s director of football Txiki Begiristain presented an offer to the Frenchman that would put him among the top earners at the Etihad.
However, Pogba was well aware of the furore such a move would cause in the media and in the city.
Besides, having his house burgled in March made Pogba feel a change of scenery would be better for him and his family.
For those two reasons, City were in an inferior position to other clubs interested in the 29-year-old, including Real Madrid, PSG and Juventus.
On Wednesday, Man United confirmed that Pogba will leave the club as a free agent this summer. he’s yet to reach an agreement with any other side over a free move.
