Manchester United’s form at Old Trafford could take a dramatic upturn with Alex Telles in their starting XI.
So far, the Brazilian has managed just one appearance in a United shirt. That outing, against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, showcased Telles’s talent at both ends of the pitch.
Most exciting was the 27-year-old’s crossing, with some United fans feeling it was the best they had seen since David Beckham was in the side.
It was certainly the best delivery into the box from a United defender for many a year. And soon Telles shoud be able to do the same at Old Trafford.
So far, United have faltered at the Theatre of Dreams. A return of one point from a possible twelve shows how much the Red Devils are missing fans.
Home advantage has lost its luster in the current climate. But Telles is better placed than most to change that.
When United signed the Brazilian for £15.4million (BBC) it was seen by many as a masterstroke.
After all, this is a player who scored 26 times and provided 57 assists during his time in Portugal. That includes 13 goals and 12 assists last season, and his delivery from wide areas should go down a storm at Old Trafford.
At their best, United use the sheer vastness of their home ground to great effect. The finest Red Devils teams thrived on width and quality balls into the box. Now they have a man who can do that better than most.
Outstanding addition
United have long needed a new left-back to compete with Luke Shaw. But Telles offers a lot more than defensive nous.
While the Brazilian international took penalties at his former club, he also swung in cross after cross with outstanding accuracy.
United have already seen a glimpse of this in Europe. But, once the international break is over, they can benefit domestically as well.
Solskjaer’s men have been very much up and down and consistency will be key in the coming months.
With Shaw sidelined for around a month, and Telles ready to return, United’s forwards should thrive on the imminent dangerous balls into the box.
It used to be something Old Trafford was synonymous with and it could soon be again.
