Marquinhos says that, in purely technical terms, Draxler is better than Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar.
The Brazilian praises Julian’s intelligence, which, according to him, allows Julian to compensate for the lack of speed.
“I have faced the three current greats — Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar — but in purely technical terms, it is Julian Draxler who impressed me the most,” PSG’s Marquinhos told Journal du Dimanche back in 2017.
“Even if he does not have the same speed as the other three, he eliminates his opponents through his control, his touches on the ball and his intelligence of the game.”
Perhaps Marquinhos has access to interdimensional travel and has visited a universe where Draxler became a professional footballer while Messi and Ronaldo chose other jobs — because only in that case such an argument could be made. In this universe, however, Marquinhos’ words make no sense.
Messi and Ronaldo have been performing at the top level for nearly 15 years now whereas Draxler isn’t even a guaranteed starter at Paris Saint-Germain.
The world will have the chance to witness another Messi vs Ronaldo duel on Tuesday, December 8, as Barcelona host Juventus in the Champions League.
