While having Cavani miss the next few games is disappointing, every closed door opens up other interesting opportunities elsewhere.
Cavani stays super fresh for Liverpool
Of course, while it’s annoying that Edinson Cavani has to sit out the next few games because of a ban he didn’t deserve, he can now at least use this time to get fitter.
Now that he will be able to work on his fitness for the next few weeks, the Uruguayan could take out all his frustrations on Liverpool. An agile centre-forward like him will be crucial for Man United to get a positive result at Anfield and that’s the kind of games El Matador craves for.
Because he’ll miss the next few games, Cavani can be at his 100% in terms of fitness and full of energy. He’ll be extremely fresh for the top-of-the-table clash and cause chaos with his clinical instinct inside the final third.
A final hurrah for Ighalo
Now that Cavani is not available for selection, Odion Ighalo could get some game-time over the next two cup games. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will definitely look to give Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial some rest, so he could use Ighalo in the next games. The Nigerian striker has barely featured this season and deserves a fitting farewell with his loan expiring at the end of January.
Playing the last few games for the club he loves, Ighalo will be supercharged to make a late impact and help the Red Devils win the games he plays in. He could definitely make a strong impact against his former side Watford in the FA Cup clash and get some goals before leaving Old Trafford.
Opportunities for Greenwood at No.9 role
It’s clear by now that Mason Greenwood is more suited to the centre-forward than a right-winger role and the youngster could get a chance to shine in that position now that Cavani isn’t available.
Mason could start in the central position against Man City and perhaps even Watford, as Solskjaer gets opportunities to test the waters with his star youngster in his natural role.
If he plays centrally, Greenwood will definitely get more chances to score goals and will be able to get into better spaces to terrorize defenders. The Englishman has already admitted that he’s learning from Cavani on how to be a better No.9 and perhaps he can show what he’s learnt from El Matador in the coming games.
