Ferdinand has said James is one of the best right-backs in the league.
The ex-United man has highlighted Reece’s delivery of the ball as a key attribute.
James started his first game under Tuchel in the 1-0 win over Spurs.
“He’s a top player and I’ll be honest, I was very surprised he didn’t start as soon as Tuchel came in,” Ferdinand said, as reported by Metro.
“If he’s watching the videos, this kid is up there with the best right-backs in the league.
“He’s a young kid got great attitude and his delivery of the ball is phenomenal and as an all-round package as a right-back he’s got a lot.”
Reece James had become a starter for Chelsea under Frank Lampard this season but the youngster hadn’t started under Thomas Tuchel yet.
With his skillset, James is very likely to flourish in the wing-back role in Tuchel’s new system.
