- Figo says that he followed the Messi saga last summer just like all football fans.
- The Portuguese believes that every club wants Leo, but only a few could actually afford him.
“I watched the thing with Leo Messi and his attempt to leave Barcelona this summer like all football fans: expectantly and surprised,” Luis Figo has told Marca.
“He’ll have his motives and reasons for making that decision (about leaving Barca). I don’t know what happened beforehand.
“Every club wants to have a player like Messi, but then it depends on factors like the current financial situation at the club, the money he’ll cost the club in wages, the will of the player…
“But generally, in life, if you don’t want to be somewhere, in the end, there’s nothing that can change your mind.”
As a reminder, former president Josep Maria Bartomeu blocked Messi’s exit last summer. Leo’s contract with Barca expires in June 2021, meaning that he can sign a pre-contract with a new club in January already.
According to the latest reports, the captain’s future will depend on who wins the presidential election at the club.
