- The Argentinean sustained a calf injury in early August.
- He could have suffered a set-back which would rule him out for a further month.
- If the reports are true, he will miss a UCL opener, as well as three other La Liga games.
Lionel Messi hasn’t made a single appearance after the Copa America tournament. The Argentinean suffered an injury on August 5, on the day he was supposed to travel for the pre-season tour to the United States.
And now RAC1 provide a disappointing update on Messi’s fitness: apparently, the Argentinean felt a physical issue on Tuesday during his recovery session. There is a huge probability of a set-back which would rule Messi out for a further month.
Messi rejoined group training for a short while last week but he felt some discomfort right before the weekend. Eventually, he wasn’t included in the matchday squad to face Betis. In total, Messi has missed two La Liga games: against Athletic Bilbao and Real Betis.
After the Betis game, Ernesto Valverde explained Messi was rested because the medical staff feared for the potential relapse. It would be a huge blow for Barcelona if the worst has happened. After all, the 2019/2020 Champions League campaign starts already in mid-September.
If the reports are true, Messi will definitely miss the UCL opening fixture, as well as games against Osasuna, Valencia and Granada.
