Leo is know to have had a close relationship with Maradona.
“It was a great moment, first the move and then the gesture he had for Maradona’s death with his shirt,” Ronald Koeman has said on Leo Messi’s goal vs Osasuna.
“Messi’s celebration was the best way to honour Maradona. Messi is the captain of Argentina. He has suffered these last days.”
As a reminder, Leo revealed his Newell’s Old Boys shirt after the goal against Osasuna as a tribute to the late Maradona, who played for the Argentinian club between 1993 and 1994. Underneath his Barcelona jersey, Messi had what looked like a replica of the shirt Diego wore during his time.
