- Griezmann was used as the 90-minute substitute the last time Barca faced his former club.
- Atleti’s captain was ‘very surprised’ at the Frenchman’s fall at Camp Nou.
- Koke doesn’t see the 29-year-old as a regular starter at the Wanda Metropolitano if he decides to return to Madrid.
- Messi would also struggle to get into the team if he reunites with Luis Suarez at Atletico, believes the Spaniard.
“I was very surprised to see a player of the stature of Griezmann [not play until] the 90th minute in the last game in which we faced Barca,” Koke said in an interview with Cadena SER of Atletico Madrid‘s 2-2 draw with Barcelona in June.
Antoine Griezmann’s debut season at Camp Nou can hardly be considered a success and the Frenchman hasn’t really hit his stride this season so far.
When asked about the 29-year-old’s potential return to the Wanda Metropolitano, the Atletico captain replied: “I think now he would have a lot of competition here.”
The Spanish midfielder went on to say that even Lionel Messi would struggle to get into flourishing Diego Simeone’s side if he decides to reunite with Luis Suarez in the Spanish capital.
“He would also have a lot of competition at Atleti,” Koke added.
Messi is out of contract at Barca next summer and is yet to put pen to paper on a new long-term deal with the Catalans.
