- After appealing against their ban, Chelsea are now free to sign players.
- Their coach jokes about wanting Leo Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappe up front.
- Messi was linked with a possible move to Chelsea back in 2013.
Some things are impossible to get no matter how hard you try, which leaves you only the opportunity to dream about them.
Talking about Chelsea’s plans for the winter transfer market, the Blues’ boss Frank Lampard delivered a FIFA-like answer. Moves like these are only possible in videogames.
If I say I want Mbappe, Ronaldo and Messi for my front three I might get knocked back,” the Chelsea head coach said, as Diario AS quote him.
“I wouldn’t say that, but it’s obviously a balance where I can put forward a recommendation and have an open conversation with the owner and hope we move forward in the right direction. I’m very open about that.
“Of course when it comes to recruitment I want to have a big say in it and we are very open.”
Joke or not, it isn’t the first time Messi’s name is linked with Chelsea. Back in 2013, there was a real possibility that the Argentine would end up at Stamford Bridge. The Blues were ready to trigger Leo’s release clause, with their sponsor Adidas (who also sponsor Messi) being ready to pay half of the sum. However, Messi remained at Camp Nou.
Would Messi struggle in the Premier League? Considering this performance from back in the days, it’d be highly unlikely.
Barca’s president Bartomeu has confirmed that the 32-year-old has the option to leave for another club every summer but the forward has no intention to move away. Currently, Barca are said to be in talks with the player over a contract extension.
