Robert Lewandowski is heavily linked with a summer move to Barcelona.
The Polish international has already confirmed he won’t extend his contract with Bayern. It expires in 2023 so he has a year left.
Bayern’s stance
Die Roten have quickly announced they won’t entertain selling the striker.
“Robert Lewandowski has a contract until 2023, and he will fulfil it,” Bayern director Oliver Kahn said.
Agent’s statement
“Bayern say he has a contract until 2023? Of course, they can keep Robert for another year… but that’s something I don’t recommend,” Lewandowski’s agent Pini Zahavi told Bild.
“He wants to leave this summer, none of us care about the money. The truth is that he hasn’t felt respected by the board since a few months now.
“Bayern lost Robert not only as a footballer and as a person.”
Bayern’s reaction
Die Roten were not happy with Zahavi’s words and released the following statement.
“On the current situation with Lewandowski, Bayern has repeatedly commented,” the statement reads.
“The club has also spoken repeatedly about whether Bayern has made an offer to Lewandowski and his management. He is one of the best footballers in Bayern’s history.
“[Directors] Kahn, Hainer and Salihamidzic have repeatedly publicly expressed how much FC Bayern values Robert and how important he is to FC Bayern.
“FC Bayern will not comment on descriptions of confidential meetings or allegations of confidential talks.”
Bayern’s plan
The German champions want to keep Robert and hope he changes his mind. That’s what Uli Hoeness, the club’s honorary director, recently said.
“Lewandowski is under contract. At the moment, no one at Bayern will let Lewandowski leave the club. Obviously, we have not found a replacement so far, so our opinion is clear.
“Lewandowski can stay and he could play well and he could still feel comfortable in Germany with his family, maybe he will come in January and say: ‘Wow, I really like Bayern, maybe I’ll stay two or three more years!'”
Clubs interested
It has been reported recently that Real Madrid joined the race for the striker. But as per the latest reports, they have decided against signing him.
Chelsea are reportedly interested in Lewandowski though.
Barcelona’s actions
The Catalans have reportedly submitted an official €32m bid to sign Lewandowski this summer.
They have also reportedly agreed a contract with Zahavi so if Bayern accept the offer, the veteran striker would join Barca this summer.
