Amid reports that Robert Lewandowski wanted to leave the club this summer, some Bayern Munich officials said that the striker would complete his contract until 2023.
Here’s what the player himself had to say in regards to these comments.
“I don’t want to say anything about that. Too much is being said and written about this situation. Certain statements are often exaggerated,” Lewandowski has told Sport Bild.
“I think it’s better for Bayern to invest the money they can get from me than to keep me until the end of my contract. I don’t want to force anything. I want to find the best solution for both parties.
“I still have a year of contract, so I asked the club for permission to leave. I think it’s the best solution in this situation… The club can still get a fee for me.
“I wish Bayern all the best and I have no doubt that the board feel the same way. That’s why I remain convinced that we will find an agreement together.”
As per the latest reports in Germany, Lewandowski considers not showing up for pre-season with Bayern in order to force a move to Barcelona.
Barca submitted an official offer of €32m plus bonuses for Robert and are yet to receive a response. It’s expected that the Bavarians would ask for €40m in return for the striker.
