After a strong start to 2021, the road ahead gets tougher for the Red Devils.
Ideal formation: At the start of the year, a 4-2-3-1 was our strongest option but now, a 4-4-2 is our best set-up. We still lack a quality right winger and Mason Greenwood has only been hit-and-miss at best. Thus, we’ve stuck with the midfield diamond that most of us love.
Players to start: Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford remain the obvious choices up front, with Edinson Cavani banned for three games. Based on the games lately, Fred, Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes are undisputed starters for the midfield. For the defence, we’ve got Luke Shaw at left-back simply because he’s the better option when compared to Alex Telles. Meanwhile, Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly and Aaron Wan-Bissaka make up for the rest of the defence. And in goal, it’s still David De Gea.
Why are these players selected?: Rashy and Martial work well together and so do Fred and McTominay. Maguire and Bailly have established a solid partnership as well and this is a set-up that has benefited us in the last few games.
Players who are dropped: Greenwood has been excluded and so has Victor Lindelof – he needs a lot of rest after playing a majority of our games at the start of the season.
Upcoming fixtures: Man United vs Man City (Jan 7), Man United vs Watford (Jan 9), Burnley vs Man United (Jan 12), Liverpool vs Man United (Jan 17), Fulham vs Man United (Jan 20).
