Afriupdate.com’s user-admins Matt Koller, Tushar Rhode and Ash Bohra joins editor Meghna to rate the players in the win at Old Trafford.
Dean Henderson – 8/10
Ash: “Steady. A couple of testing moments. Good positioning. Overall did well.
Meghna: “A well-deserved clean sheet for Deano. He made some good saves and fared quite well.”
Tushar: “Shows that he can manage the physicality of English football, the natural successor to DDG.”
Scott McTominay – 9/10
Ash: “Great defending. Maturing as a CDM. Scored a great header.”
Meghna: “A captain’s performance from Scotty. Maguire came on as the captain after Bailly got injured but McTominay truly shone tonight.”
Matt: “Decent performance, a couple of sloppy moments but overlooked due to his brilliant defending and attacking.”
Tushar: “Captain McTom, surely one for the future. Solid defensively apart from one odd instance. Good to see Fletch in the stands, McTom should learn the art of defensiveness from him.”
Donny van de Beek – 7/10
Ash: “Looked very much part of the team. Unlikely to replace Bruno any time soon.”
Meghna: “A bit unfair to compare him to Bruno but he did his job well in the midfield tonight. A well-rounded performance topped off by this incredible back-heel pass.”
Matt: “It’s clear this guy has talent… but he also still is growing to how football works over here, caught in possession a few times, but when he’s not tackled he makes decent passes and some great flicks.”
Tushar: “Unfortunately did nothing to show that he deserves a place ahead of Pogba, Bruno. But slowly and steadily he’ll get there, always looks to pass the ball forward.”
Jesse Lingard – 6.5/10
Ash: “Decent outing. Unlikely to push his way in the first team.”
Matt: “Nice to see him get a good run out, solid engine in the team. He’s a workhorse, just without that final magic that separates him from being a great player.”
Daniel James – 4/10
Ash: “Lively start. Faded out a bit before being replaced.”
Meghna: “I really don’t have much to say. I mean, he tried and he’s got the pace but his performances don’t make a strong impact at the end of the day.”
Tushar: “Harsh, but really looks like he doesn’t have any other skill but pace, in spite of playing in a fairly favorable role. Needs a loan to get some sort of decisiveness.”
The rest: Telles – 7, Williams – 6.5, Tuanzebe – 6, Bailly – 6, Mata – 7, Greenwood – 5.
Subs: Maguire – 7, Rashford – 6, Martial – 5, Matic – 6.
