As they bid farewell to Paul Pogba, Man United have tried to find some positives from his six-year spell at the club.
“It was a low-key end to a United career that had brought so many individual high moments, so many beautiful goals, assists and pieces of skill,” the statement on their official website reads.
“But for a boy that joined the Academy at 16 to make over 200 United appearances and lift the Youth Cup, along with two major pieces of silverware – not to mention the World Cup at international level – is something that should be applauded and celebrated.”
Of course, it should be pointed out that the 29-year-old spent four seasons at Juventus before rejoining United in 2016 for almost £90million.
Now, for the second time in a decade, Pogba leaves Old Trafford as a free agent and as a symbol of the era of unfulfilled potential.
