Jadon Sancho is still one of Manchester United’s top priorities in the transfer market and the club is becoming increasingly confident that they will get their man in June.
The England international was top of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s wishlist last summer, but Borussia Dortmund’s €120 million valuation proved too rich for the board’s blood and the deal never materialised.
But according to a report from 90min.com, Sancho remains keen on a move to Old Trafford and United believe that the player’s price will be lowered this year after a poor run of form has seen his statistics dwindle in the Bundesliga.
So far in 202/21, Sancho has recorded four goals and eight assists in 18 games (0.66 goal involvements per game) for Dortmund – not a bad haul, but a shadow of the 20 goals and 20 assists in 44 games (0.91 goal involvements) that he recorded last season.
‘Now, the Old Trafford hierarchy believe they are in a strong position to get a transfer over the line this year and will do so for less than £100m,’ reporter Jamie Spencer says.
‘Overall, the player’s eagerness to join United has not changed.
‘But the club doesn’t want a repeat of last year and is eyeing an early deal, especially with the delayed European Championship taking up a block of time in the summer and potentially making it difficult to engage in talks.
‘With that in mind, United could try and engineer an agreement before the tournament kicks off in June.’
An early deal would also suit Dortmund, who set an early deadline last summer only to see it ignored by United, which did not help the situation.
United may face more opposition this time around, with Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid all keeping tabs on the 20-year-old. However, his relatively poor form may also dissuade any of them from making a bid, leaving United back in the box seat for the second time.
