Diario Sport name the 10 reasons why Frenkie de Jong is completely opposed to a move to Manchester United.
1. New house – De Jong has recently bought a house in Pedraballes, one of the best parts of Barcelona, and his plan was to live there for many years.
2. His future wife loves the city – Frenkie’s fiancée Mikky Kiemeney has adapted to life in Catalonia and doesn’t want to leave.
3. Dream club – The Dutchman dreamed of playing for Barcelona since he was a kid.
4. Champions League – The 25-year-old believes he is one of the best midfielders in the world and thinks he shouldn’t be playing in Europa League, which would be the case at Man United.
5. Man United is bad luck – Frenkie respects the Red Devils as a team but considers that they have been having bad luck since the departure of Alex Ferguson. And that’s despite the money they invested into the squad.
6. Manchester’s bad weather – A lot of rain, not too much sun and low temperatures overall is not exactly what Frenkie wants.
7. Thinks he can convince Xavi – The midfielder is sure that he will be able to do whatever the coach asks of him this season, even if it means not playing in his favourite role.
8. His Barca salary – Including the loyalty bonus, Frenkie is set to earn €27.7m this year.
9. The media campaign – De Jong believes that there has been a directed campaign in the media to push him out of the club and he doesn’t like it. The thing he dislikes the most is that no one from Barca told him in person that he has to leave.
10. Clubs discussing him behind his back – Barca and Man United have been in talks over the player but they are yet to contact the him or his agent.
