Manchester United are set to meet arch-rivals Liverpool for the second time in a week with Sunday’s game at Old Trafford being an FA Cup Fourth Round tie.
United come into Sunday’s match off the back of a brilliant 2-1 domestic win over Fulham and have won eight of their last 11 matches, in all competitions.
After playing out a goal-less draw against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool last weekend, the Red Devils will be desperate to go one better when the two sides clash on the Old Trafford turf this weekend.
With a place in the FA Cup’s next round up for grabs, there will be no margin for error and as always with Liverpool, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will have to be up for it and on top of their game.
Ahead of the weekend’s exciting match-up, we have predicted how we expect to see Solskjaer line his Red Devils up.
David De Gea
I think if this match was against anyone other than Liverpool, Solskjaer may recall back-up keeper Dean Henderson to the starting line-up.
However, after a very solid defensive display against Liverpool last weekend, I think Solskjaer will stick with the same back five.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Didn’t have his best game during his side’s mid-week tie against Fulham, but I fully expect the English defender to bounce back when he’s facing off against Sadio Mane on the weekend.
Victor Lindelof
As above – I think Solskjaer will go with his tried and tested back-line.
A four-man defence of Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire and Shaw dealt with Liverpool’s attacking threat very well during the side’s recent Premier League match, and I can see the gaffer sticking with it.
Harry Maguire
United’s skipper is in a great run of form at the moment.
I think he’ll partner Lindelof at the heart of the Red Devils’ defence on the weekend.
Luke Shaw
Similar to Maguire, Shaw has arguably been United’s best player this month.
I don’t see Sunday’s game being the game we’ll see him rested.
I fully expect to see another great battle between the English full back and Liverpool’s Mo Salah – Poor lad has only just been let out of Shaw’s pocket.
Scott McTominay
Missed the game against Fulham but I do expect to see the Scotsman recalled for this weekend’s match.
Industrious, strong and passionate… United’s young captain in-the-making will consider himself unlucky should he fail to start.
Fred
Putting his first season critics to absolute shame. United’s South American is on fire.
Fred put in yet another fine performance against Fulham and will be eager to continue his impressive form against rivals Liverpool.
Donny van de Beek
Has barely featured in his side’s domestic games and surely the Dutchman won’t put up with being left out for much longer.
With Paul Pogba becoming crucial to United’s title challenge, Sunday’s match could be the perfect oppotuntity for the van de Beek to come in and kickstart his United career.
Bruno Fernandes
Very unlikely to be dropped.
The impressive Portuguse attacker will be desperate to perform better against Liverpool on the weekend.
Marcus Rashford
Rested for the majority of the match against Fulham. I expect to see Rashford recalled on Sunday.
Anthony Martial
Works well with Rashford.
I expect to see the two attackers move out wide in attack and make room for Fernandes down the middle.
