Manchester United have been linked with Lisandro Martinez for some time and reports suggest that the Red Devils have tabled a bid for the Argentine international.
According to Tyc Sports journalist, Hernan Sisto, the Old Trafford outfit want to sign the La Albiceleste center half and have moved in with a bid worth 40 million euros (£35million).
However, Ajax are looking for a much higher fee for their prized asset. As per The Daily Telegraph, the Dutch champions want around £50million.
The 24-year-old was a key member of Erik ten Hag’s squad that won the Dutch Eredivisie last season.
The South American defender started 23 games in the league and helped the team keep no fewer than 16 clean sheets. Moreover, in the attacking third, he scored a goal and provided 3 assists.
For the senior national side, so far, Martinez has made 7 appearances, he was a member of the team that won the Copa America last year and was an unused substitute when Argentina defeated Italy to lift the Finalissima trophy earlier this month.
Defense was one of our weakest department in the last campaign. Despite signing a world class player in the form of Varane and having the most expensive defender in the history of the game, Maguire, United conceded 57 goals in the Premier League.
If the backline is not improved this summer then we can expect top teams like Liverpool and Manchester City to run riot again next term.
