Manchester United to make Jack Grealish move once they sell off Paul Pogba
According to The Athletic (h/t The Express), Manchester United are expected to make a move for Aston Villa star Jack Grealish in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils were heavily linked with the Aston Villa skipper in the summer. However, the interest amounted to nothing and he stayed put at Villa Park.
Grealish has since stepped up his game several notches. He has led from the front as Villa enjoy an excellent start to the current campaign.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains a huge fan of the English international. Any move for the midfielder, however, will not come cheap. United will need to make a sizeable bid to even to tempt Villa.
The Red Devils do have a plan to land Grealish but it involves them getting rid of Paul Pogba first. The French international’s contract expires in 2022 and he does not appear likely to extend his stay at the club.
United remain determined to recoup the club record £89m they paid for him in 2016. This money will then be reinvested in securing Grealish.
A reason to be optimistic
United were told to fork out £90m to land him last summer. Given his current performances, it is fair to assume he will cost upwards of that come the summer. Moreover, with the likes of Manchester City, Barcelona, and Real Madrid all keen, Villa can drive up the price. (h/t Birmingham Mail)
Having signed a new deal only last year, Villa are in a strong position when it comes to negotiations. Despite that, United have reasons to be optimistic.
It is believed that Grealish could come to a gentleman’s agreement with Villa to let him leave for a Champions League club at the end of the season.
United legend Rio Ferdinand urged the club to land Grealish regardless of Pogba’s situation. The 25-year-old will add much dynamism to the United midfield and could prove to be a pivotal player going forward.
