As at midday on Thursday 23rd June 2022, Manchester United are yet to agree a deal fro Frenkie de Jong. Negotiations for this deal reportedly started about 5 weeks ago and still don’t seem imminent at this time.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday night that Barcelona want €86 million for Erik ten Hag’s top target. United are however, still trying to lower the fee.

United fans are cussing all over social media. So far, its not the summer most of them expected. A tot of six first team players have departed the club and more still have to be sold. Neither a sake nor a buy looks imminent right now though.

On Monday 27th June, the players who didn’t have international commitments in the off season are expected back at the club for preseason training.
It is the first time Erik ten Hag will be taking charge of training, and he’d be starting with almost the same squad that finished 6th in the Premier League last season with United’s lowest ever points total, just the 6 players less. For United fans, that is unacceptable.
To rub salt to Injury, the owners of the club will be getting £11 million in dividends alongside other stakeholders on Friday, that is more or less what separates United and Barcelona in Frenkie de Jong’s valuation right now. For United fans, that is heartbreaking.
Teams that finished way higher than United in the league last season have strengthened their squad with additions while United are still to make any breakthrough in any negotiations. For the fans, that is mediocre.
Christian Eriksen is said to still be considering his options between staying at Brentford and accepting a move to Man United under Erik ten Hag. For the fans, that is just plain embarrassing.
The club have been linked with 90+ players this summer, at least half of them must be click-bait articles. However, the frustrating thing for fans is that genuine targets like Darwin Nunez and Jurrien Timber have been missed out on already and it’s still under two weeks into the window.
Given that some fans are giving the club the benefit of doubt that moves are being made behind the scenes, there are only four days left for every one of them to literally lose it.
Fans are hoping that the club would announce at least one signing this weekend as difficult as it sounds. They’re also hoping that all summer, so far, has not been spent negotiating only for Frenkie de Jong. They’d hope for a major breakthrough this weekend for at least one player.
Yeah, Hope. United fans don’t expect anything good these days, they just hope for it while expecting the very worst.
#mufc are expected to formally submit an improved bid to Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong imminently. United sources say they are "negotiating hard" for a fair deal #mulive [@samuelluckhurst]

Despite the pessimism around the fans, most of them will actually lose it if Erik ten Hag turns up to preseason on Monday and no signing is close to completion.
