Manchester United and Barcelona are said to have verbally agreed on a fee for Frenkie de Jong.
De Jong joined Barcelona in 2019 and has swiftly established himself as a regular for the Spanish club. Erik ten Hag coached the Dutch international when he joined Barcelona from Ajax.
According to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, Manchester United and Barcelona have verbally agreed on a cost for De Jong, with the Premier League club wanting to complete a deal by the weekend, as seen in the tweet below.
After losing Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic this summer, Ten Hag would have prioritized a midfielder.
Ten Hag is familiar with De Jong’s qualities and what he can bring to Manchester United, having worked with him at Ajax. De Jong will be completely free of the manager’s demands and should fit the style of play perfectly.
Even after losing Pogba and Matic, Manchester United’s remaining midfielders failed to excite last season, so adding De Jong could be their best piece of business this summer.
