Leo Messi just can’t stop winning individual awards! This time around, it was Marca that handed him a pair of prizes.
The Madrid-based newspaper are the ones that give away the individual prizes in La Liga. Although the winners were already known in May, the outlet waited until December to organize a Gala night and give the players their deserved awards.
Barca’s captain scooped two trophies — the Pichici Trophy for the best goalscorer of 2018-19 and the Alfredo Di Stefano Trophy for the best player in the league.
Unfortunately, Leo couldn’t be present at the ceremony but he recorded a video to thank the organizers for the awards.
“Today I can’t be at the ceremony because of the Clásico, but from here I send a big hug to all the attendees.
“This is an award that honours me, and I’m very happy to have won it for another year,” Barca’s captain told Marca.
It was the sixth times the 32-year-old wins the Pichichi and he is now tied with legendary Telmo Zarra for the most Pichichis in La Liga.
As for Di Stefano prizes, Messi has got seven of them. The award was first introduced in the 2007-08 season. The only players to win the award besides Leo are Raul (1) and Cristiano Ronaldo (4).
As a reminder, the forward scored 36 goals and provided 15 assists in only 36 La Liga games.
Besides the mentioned prizes, Marca also hand the Zamora Trophy for the goalkeeper with the lowest goals-per-game ratio. Atletico’s Jan Oblak clinched his fourth consecutive trophy while Marc-Andre Ter Stegen finishing in second. The Slovenian registered a 0.73 goal-per-game ratio while the German only got a 0.92 ratio.
