Former Nigerian captain, Augustine “Jay Jay” Okocha has backed compatriot, Victor Osimhen, to shine in the English Premier League should he leave Napoli.
“Osimhen has done really well, he is having a great season and I think he deserves all the praises that he is getting. I think the ultimate for him is to play in the English Premier League,” Okocha said in a BBC interview.
“We are following his progress and what he can achieve is limitless based on if he can continue putting in the hard work that he has put in so far.”
When asked if Osimhen’s playing style would be suited perfectly to the Premier League, Okocha said he believes that it would even help to improve his compatriot as a striker.
“The Premier League is one which helps to improve players as well but you just have to find the right club that suits your game but I think Osimhen is good enough to play in England.”
Okocha was further asked by the BBC Sports what club he felt would be the best for Osimhen to join in the Premier League to which the former Super Eagles midfielder said he didn’t know.
“I don’t really know but I would have chosen a team like Manchester City but they have got a top striker in Erling Haaland right now but then, I think Manchester United would be an ideal club for him.
“I actually mentioned Man United because they have been struggling to get quality strikers in recent time but I believe both Manchester clubs will be good for Osimhen as well as Arsenal.”
While he is still receiving all the accolades in the Serie A for his superb goal-scoring prowess, Osimhen has openly declared he has his eyes on playing in the Premier League and he is working towards achieving the dream.
Osimhen who was recently voted Best Foreign Athlete in Italy has been commanding interests from some of the top clubs across Europe, especially in the EPL where there are reported interests from the likes of Man United, Arsenal and Chelsea.
The 24-year-old has become a symbol of the Partenopei’s Scudetto charge during the 2022/23 season, scoring 21 goals while he has netted 25 times in 29 appearances across all competitions.
