The City boss always expects to see the Red Devils challenging for trophies.
He advises his own players to take things one game at a time ahead of a clash against United.
In a recent pre-match press conference, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News, Pep Guardiola said: “I am pretty sure Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] is happier than me. I am not much concerned with [Manchester] United.
“I have been so busy with what we have to do day-by-day here. If they are there it is because they deserve it so since I arrived I expected them to be there, United, all the time, some times over the last years it has not been possible, especially in the Premier League, but now they are there.
“If you want to learn about the Premier League, my advice to my players is not to think of the next five or six fixtures, and think if we win this amount of games we are going to do this, so the best advice is that we are just focusing on the next one.
“If you think about what happened in January and February, we could lose these two games [in hand] that we have left so anything can happen. In every game in the Premier League it’s tough so it’s better to be calm.”
While United are now second in the league with 33 points in hand, Manchester City are in the eighth spot with 26 points. It is worth noting that they have two games in hand though.
The Red Devils have a Carabao Cup semi-final clash against City coming up and it promises to be an exciting one. Last season, we crashed out of the tournament at the same stage – and to the same opponents.
However, this term, we’re much better as a unit. With a tough list of fixtures in January, here’s what we think our ideal XI should look like.
