- PSG value Neymar at 222 million euros.
- They agree to sell the player to Barca for 100 million euros plus Coutinho and Rakitic.
- Barcelona don’t have 100 million euros this is why other options are being discussed.
- The Parisians offered to add Dembele in the deal but Barcelona don’t want to do this.
- The Catalans believe that Neymar’s value now stands at 160 million euros, i.e. Coutinho plus Raktic and no money.
The Neymar saga continues although it should be resolved the coming days for the better or the worse.
After the latest meeting in Paris, there is an agreement in principle between Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain that the deal is reachable. Now it’s time to discuss the financial aspects.
The Parisians still value the player at 222 million euros. However, they would be ready to accept part of the payment in player transfers. They have even agreed to Barca’s offer to sign Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Rakitic.
The problem is that the Ligue 1 champions value Rakitic and Coutinho at 122 million euros which means that the Catalans would still have to add 100 million euros to get Neymar. After the Griezmann deal, Barca don’t have such a sum available.
This is why other options are being discussed. For example, PSG have inquired if Barcelona would be willing to include Ousmane Dembele in the deal for the Brazilian. The Catalans don’t like the proposal but everything can happen in the next few days.
Barca also believe that Neymar’s value has fallen in the past couple of years and 160 million euros should be enough to bring the Brazilian, i.e. the swap move including Ney on the one side and Coutinho and Rakitic on the other without any additional payments.
Meanwhile, the Catalans continue to press Neymar into making a public statement about his wish to join Barca. They have promised the Brazilian that the transfer would be completed in 48 hours should he do this.
In his latest interview to the French media, Paris-Saint Germain sporting director Leonardo opened up on the current status of Neymar talks.
“There are talks about Neymar’s future but nothing is advanced,” told Leonardo to RMC Sport.
He also commented on his personal attitude to the Brazilian.
“Neymar made some mistakes. I didn’t have an opportunity to know him before. As the days go by, I know him better. I think he’s a good boy with a very good background. And on the pitch, he’s an amazing player.”
Leonardo is considered to be the key contacting person in the talks between PSG and Barcelona. As stated by different sources on Tuesday, Eric Abidal met Leonardo and discussed the details of the deal for the first time.
