Barcelona brought in four players in January but could register just three of them for Europa League, and Xavi decided to leave Dani Alves out.
The coach made the decision because of the right-back’s age, Catalunya Radio claim. At 38, Dani cannot play twice a week on a regular basis.
Xavi wanted to preserve Alves for La Liga, since finishing inside top four is the main goal for the season.
According to Twitch streamer Mancuer, who often covers Barca, Xavi personally explained the situation to the right-back and the player understood the devision perfectly.
Since returning to the club, the 38-year-old has started in four out of Barca’s five matches. He’s already registered two assists.
