- Messi hadn’t scored from open play since the CL match against Napoli.
- Roberto says that no one doubts Messi’s ability and quality.
“None of us doubt Leo Messi’s ability and quality. We knew he would score from open play and not just penalties,” Sergi Roberto told reporters after Barcelona’s match against Real Betis.
Messi got his goal from open play against Betis after failing to do so in 1,003 minutes. The last open-play goal the Argentine score was the one against Napoli back in August.

Interestingly, it was Sergi Roberto who assisted Messi’s goal against Los Beticos. The 28-year-old found Leo with a brilliant backheel pass, and the Argentine slotted the ball in with a powerful shot.
So far this season, Messi has recorded six goals in 10 matches.
