“I want to apologize to everyone at Espanyol for the unfortunate gesture I made tonight,” Ronald Araujo wrote on Instagram.
“It was because of the tension produced during today’s derby. I consider myself a respectful person with rival fans & clubs.
“I’m not proud of what happened,” the defender concluded.
Araujo had gestured toward the Espanyol bench with his finger, before Barcelona equalized, and was heard yelling “go back to Segunda!”
The Espanyol fans had began celebrating with less than 3 minutes to play and their team leading 2-1.
Unfortunately, Araujo suffered an injury during the game.
