Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t even taken to the pitch yet, but he is already the proud owner of a fabulous new record.
New year, same old Ronaldo.
The Portuguese ace has become the first person ever to reach 250 million followers on Instagram. He’s the most followed person on the social platform and second only to Instagram’s own account, which has 382 million in comparison.

To put Ronaldo’s latest achievement into context, Lionel Messi has 174 million followers on Instagram. That is roughly a difference of 76 million, give or take, between the two stars. Neymar, on the other hand, has 144 million – around 106 million less than CR7.
It’s also the second time in less than a week Ronaldo has made headlines on Instagram after Billboard ranked his tribute to the late Diego Maradona, who died from a heart attack in November at the age of 60, as the most-liked post of 2020 with 19.7 million likes.
In the football world, meanwhile, Cristiano can break another five new impressive records in 2021. Check them out on the link below.
