Pique, Araujo, Umtiti and Roberto will miss Wednesday’s clash with Ferencvaros through injuries.
As Barca lack funds for new players, Koeman is keen to develop the La Masia talents.
“For me, it’s just bad luck,” Ronald Koeman told the pre-Ferencvaros press conference of the number of injuries in Barcelona’s squad.
“We’ve spoken in the pre-season about our squad and also about the economic situation which has had an influence. We have to use who we have and give opportunities to youngsters like Araujo and Mingueza.
“There’s always a reason for us to give opportunities because they are the future and if we can’t improve by signing new players or there’s no money we have to give chances to younger players.”
Gerard Pique, Ronald Araujo, Samuel Umtiti, Sergi Roberto and Ansu Fati will all miss Wednesday’s Champions League clash against the Hungarian champions through injuries.
As Pique is out of action with a knee problem for around four months, the Catalans are said to be willing to sign Atletico Madrid centre-back Felipe on a half-year loan in January.
