Chelsea will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start to life under head coach Thomas Tuchel when they lock horns with Sheffield United at Bramall Lane this evening.
After taking four points from his first two home games in charge, Tuchel secured his first away win as Blues boss at the very first attempt on Thursday evening as he watched his side defeat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Jorginho’s first-half penalty was enough to seal all three points for the Blues in a contest they dominated from start to finish.
Now, they will be looking to maintain their strong start to life under Tuchel against the bottom-of-the-table Blades, who were thrashed 4-1 by the Blues in the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season.
Ahead of Sunday evening’s trip to South Yorkshire, Tuchel does have one or two injury worries to have concerns about. With that in mind, here is a round-up of all the very latest Blues injury news.
Thiago Silva
Chelsea are set to be without centre-back Silva this evening after he was forced off during the first half against Spurs in midweek.
With 36 minutes on the clock, the Brazilian was forced off with a muscle problem and replaced by Andreas Christensen.
Despite Tuchel remaining hopeful he could be fit for tonight’s showdown with the Blades, Silva has poured cold water on his boss’ hopes, taking to Instagram to deliver the bad news.
A rough translation of the message – via Chelsea Reddit – read: “Injuries are part of our profession, now I’m treating and coming back stronger.”
It remains unclear how long the former Paris Saint-Germain star will be sidelined for.
Kurt Zouma
Whilst the Blues lost Silva during the clash with Jose Mourinho’s side, they already found themselves as a centre-back short before they even arrived in north London.
Frenchman Zouma had picked up an injury in training on Wednesday morning, ruling him out of the London derby clash.
However, he has since returned to full, first-team training, meaning he is ready to make his return to action should he be selected by Tuchel this evening.
Hakim Ziyech
Midfielder Ziyech was not involved in Chelsea’s victory over Burnley last Sunday lunchtime but was deemed fit enough to make the substitutes bench on Thursday night.
The Moroccan was an unused substitute against Spurs but the fact that he was named in the matchday squad suggests he has returned to full fitness and will be available for selection once again this evening.
Kai Havertz
After being forced to miss the trip to Spurs through a minor injury he picked up in training on Wednesday morning, the Germany international is set to return this evening.
Havertz, however, has trained ahead of this evening’s clash with Chris Wilder’s side, suggesting he is ready to make his return to the matchday squad.
