Donny van de Beek is (finally!) going to get the chance to play for Manchester United again.
As we all know, the Dutchman, who was signed from Ajax during the transfer window, has barely played. That’s despite fans constantly calling for Donny to be given a real run in the side.
For whatever reason, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opted against throwing the classy midfielder into the side. However, today’s cup game versus Watford always felt like a place where Van de Beek would play.
Now, Solskjaer has confirmed as much, stating that the highly-rated 23-year-old is ‘going to play’ against The Hornets later.
Check out what Solskjaer had to say here:
“Donny is going to play tomorrow.” Solskjaer told reporters, including Sky Sports News. “That’s another chance for him and, yes, I’ve spoken to him and reiterated and made him aware of how much we rate him.
“But he’s going to play tomorrow and that’s a good chance to kick on’.
Just like Solskjaer was with Odion Ighalo, the gaffer has remained tight-lipped in regards to whether Van de Beek will start. You’d imagine our #34 will feature from the off though, as he desperately needs to get minutes under his belt.
Again, this is another opportunity that Van de Beek simply has to take. In order to start featuring in Premier League matches, we’re going to need to see him drop an 8/10 performance as a minimum.
It’s a shame because since scoring on debut, we’ve barely seen Van de Beek given a proper chance to make a real impact. Hopefully, that all changes this evening.
Although they’re a Championship side, this Watford team does have plenty of quality and it will be a good test for Van de Beek. Make no mistake about it, or opponents will go into the game feeling like they’ve got a great chance at upsetting us – so Donny will have to be on his A-game from minute one.
