The gaffer mocked former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez’s infamous comments made in 2009 when he indicated that United are favoured by the referees.
Ole says that he doesn’t spend time worrying about what other managers have to say about his team.
He believes Klopp and Mourinho’s moaning about United getting penalties could be a way of influencing the referees not to give them in the future.
When asked about his thoughts on Jurgen Klopp’s comments about Man United getting more penalties than Liverpool, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “And that’s a fact, probably.
“That is probably going to be my answer. That’s a fact that we have got more than him but I don’t know how many penalties they’ve had.
“I don’t count how many penalties they have, so if they want to spend time on worrying about when we get fouled in the box, I don’t spend time on that.
“I can’t talk on behalf of other managers, why they say things like this. Obviously, I felt it worked last year in the semi-finals in the FA Cup because Frank spoke about it and we had a nailed-on penalty that we should have had that we didn’t get, so maybe it’s a way of influencing referees.
“I don’t know, but I don’t worry about that. When they foul our players it’s a penalty. It’s just when it’s inside the box.”
The ‘That’s a fact’ comment from Ole is especially funny considering that former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez made it famous with a rant in 2009. The Spaniard then said that ‘it’s a fact’ that Sir Alex Ferguson’s side influenced the referees’ decision, which is eerily similar to Klopp suggesting United get more penalties.
Considering that the Red Devils have received only one more penalty than Liverpool in the Premier League this season, Klopp can definitely do one with his comments. Ole refuses to be drawn into this controversy and seems to be revelling at the rage of his opposition managers as he aims to continue United’s winning run with some key games ahead.
